Meg Myers brings a unique brand of alt-rock to the festival, which Billboard described as having “a strikingly visceral feeling and the sort of deeply relatable angst artists like Fiona Apple came up on.” Her songs “Desire” and “Sorry” made the Top 15 and Top 20 alternative radio hits, respectively.

Based in Louisville, Ky., the band released its first full-length album, “White Reaper Does it Again,” in 2015, and followed that in 2017 with “The World’s Best American Band.” The name stems from band members Tony Esposito and Nick Wilkerson seeing an all-white Grim Reaper Halloween decoration when they were in high school. White Reaper headlines the first night of the festival and will bring their garage punk sound to Sacramento. The Record Company is a Los Angeles-based three-person band whose debut album “Give it Back to You” earned a Grammy nomination for Best Contemporary Blues Album and produced three top 10 hits, including, “Off the Ground.” The band recently finished recording a new album to follow their second album, “All of This Life,” which features the track “Life to Fix,” which NPR Music says “breathes new life into style of music.” With the eclectic mix and diversity of the musicians at this year’s festival, Sacramentans and visitors alike will experience a wide variety of music that not only appeals to their normal tastes, but might just be an introduction to their new favorite group. The Farm-to-Fork Festival is one of the most-anticipated events in Sacramento, and after being canceled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it’s back, and the music is a highlight alongside fresh food, chef demonstrations, food trucks, beer and wine, and so much more. You’re listening to SFTD.2019 FM the boppin’est station on the air! This is another smash from White Reaper.Sacramento welcomes live music back to Capitol Mall for the 2021 Farm-to-Fork Festival as The Record Company and White Reaper headline a two-day free festival that has become increasingly popular since its inception in 2013 and combines the best of Sacramento’s agricultural bounty with exciting live music. I’m certainly looking forward to a day in the sun around the next solstice with this tune bouncing around that big old wise old tree stage. So maybe this whole review is out of whack with the kudos White Reaper are receiving. Since writing this review White Reaper have been announced as the third wheel to Pearl Jam and Pixies mega gig in Hyde Park next summer. White Reaper have hit the big time at my place even if nobody else has noticed. I played them over and over, digitally flipping that virtual seven inch until I knew every lick, beat, stop and start. The twofer heralded the arrival of the new album.

This track paired up with the equally catchy but a little less skinny tied Real Long Time as the double A-Side of a download only single. The ear worm lyrics are perfect mallrat dance routine fodder. That crunch totally back combed over the jangle of the guitar that’s undeniably teased up with hairspray.

That bass lines bop is clad top to toe in day-glo Lycra. The sort of song designed to drive an open top jeep down to the beach in time for the Babes to hit the surf before the party at the beach house gets wild. It’s safe to say in some upbeat Black Mirror episode where it’s eternally a Friday night in 1986, every single track on You Deserve Love is owed its place as a hit record on a radio station that sounds like a bad hand in scrabble. This is about the new shiz and the new shiz only. Between then and the new album You Deserve Love they also boshed out the magnificently titled LP The World’s Greatest American Band. Last time I wrote about White Reaper I was comparing them to The Ramones and hailing their 2015 sophomore effort White Reaper Does It Again as a vintage classic from the modern age. Me extolling the virtues of a virtually unknown band of capable minstrels who can play and sing and twirl and dance for the amusement of the whole world if only they’d be interested. It’s infectious like pink eye and as ‘frothy a bop along ditty’ as any band could hope to ride onto the radio.Īnd yet, here we are again. The catchiest single of 2019 to my ears is this Knack riddled nugget of Garage Pop Rock.
